Weekend Getaways – Tennessee
Tennessee is now the state where I live and it too has become “home” to me although you will never see me wear orange or sing “Rocky Top”. I’m an Alabama girl through and through! Whether you want to visit the mountains in the east or the Music City in the middle of the state, there are great weekend getaways waiting for you.
First off is Blackberry Farms located in Walland, TN just south of Knoxville in the Great Smokey Mountains. Think of a sophisticated culinary experience set in the mountains and you’ve found Blackberry Farms.
The concept “farm to table” doesn’t even cover what is to be experienced. Farm fresh eggs, wild honey, heirloom produce from the garden, artisan cheeses from local sheep can be found on property and the guests are encouraged to help in the farming process to get a greater appreciation of the cuisine.
There are various food and wine events held throughout the year or if you’re more into the outdoors then you can fly fish, kayak, hike, ride horses, swim, play golf or tennis.
If you just want to relax then check out the spa. Or if you’re into nature then you can stargaze, bird-watch, or go on wildflower nature hikes.
Accommodations include an Estate room with a common area including a fireplace and stocked pantry with snacks, 3-4 bedroom houses perfect for groups or families with a common living area and kitchen, cottage suites with your own porch and rocking chairs along with a fireplace and stocked pantry, or the exclusive Hill Cottages where technology meets old world antiques and includes your own concierge and golf cart.
Blackberry Farms is great for families or couples wanting to get away from it all. Virtuoso amenities include possible upgrade upon arrival (based on availability), daily full breakfast for 2 people, $100 spa credit, and early check-in/late check-out (based on availability).
Music City, aka Nashville, is home to blues, country, and great food. Stay at the Hutton Hotel close to Music Row and downtown where you can frequent the honky-tonk bars or catch a Titans game. The hotel is both modern and hip and the choice property for the music industry so you never know who you might see in the lobby.
Guest rooms are spacious and well decorated and there is access to spa services and an in-house fitness center. The hotel is pet friendly so feel free to bring along Fido.
Nashville is home to many great restaurants but be sure to check out their famous burger in the 1808 Grille. Virtuoso amenities include possible upgrade upon arrival, daily breakfast for 2, and complimentary lunch for 2 people excluding tax and gratuity.
